Underfloor Heating Boards: XPS, Heatbacker & Clip-down
For Ridgeline U17 underfloor heating, start with the floor construction: clips beneath screed, routed XPS insulation for an overlay, or a specified Heatbacker assembly for tiles. The right choice depends on the room’s heat loss, available floor height, subfloor and final covering.
Which board should I choose?

Will a standard 16 mm board fit Ridgeline U17?
Do not assume so. Ridgeline U17 has a 17.2 mm outside diameter. A nominal 16 mm pipe channel does not establish compatibility. We confirm the exact routed board revision and tube fit before accepting your overlay specification.
Are boards included in the clip-down core packs?
No. The published clip-down core packs include Ridgeline tube, a manifold, complete manifold connections, a pump/blending assembly, fixing clips and perimeter edge insulation. Base insulation and overlay boards are excluded. A castellated-panel version is a separately quoted alternative to clips.
How many manifold ports and clips do I need?
The manifold is sized by the number of heating circuits, rather than floor area alone. Our 50 m² reference core pack contains three 100 m coils, one three-port manifold, three complete connection pairs, 600 clips and 100 m perimeter edge strip. It costs £1,695 including VAT, plus £72 UK delivery. The area label assumes a reference layout; heat loss and circuit pressure drop still require a project design.
Can I choose room controls?
Yes. Thermostats, manifold actuators and a compatible wiring centre can be added to your quotation. Tell us how many rooms or independently controlled zones you want. They are not included in the core pack price. Pump and blending requirements also need to suit the boiler or heat-pump hydraulic design.
What should I send for a board quotation?
Send your floor plan or room dimensions, subfloor, available build-up height, preferred floor finish and heat source. Include an existing heat-loss calculation or circuit plan if available. We confirm board quantities, returns, manifold routes, connection sets, control requirements and finishing layers in the written specification.
